Mavis flew home as a Field Champion tonight after a weekend of wild game field trials hosted at Poronui by The Pointer and Setter Club NZ. The perfect hunting ground, hiding feisty end of season birds, demanded all of the dogs skills and I was so proud as Mavis secured the only win of the weekend after long hunts, crossing streams and travelling very rough ground to where she finally held what turned out to be 3 pheasants, remaining super steady as they each flushed.
Sharing a weekend of sport with judges, handlers and their dogs, who give up time and especially love working live game, is gold, and massive thanks to P&S Club for organising the weekend, to Poronui for a perfect location and to the Rotarua Gundog Club and the Working Spaniel Club.
The icing on the cake was watching a pup from our 2025 ‘S’ litter having his first Novice run. Well done to owner Martin Slimin and Ahu, (Aytee Speyrunner) who delivered a run with passion and range that was an exciting sign for the future👌🐾
